The Mountain Imperial-Pigeon is distributed from Nepal to Indochina and south through the Malay Peninsula to Indonesia with a disjunct population in the Western Ghats of south-west India. It is found in broad-leaved forest from about 200 metres to about 2,300 metres.
It is a large pigeon with brownish upperparts and pinkish-grey underparts, head and neck though these colours were difficult to see in the early morning light when we saw these birds. It is usually seen in small flocks when feeding on fruit and berries.
